Do sway bar links have anything to do with upper and lower ball joints in a 1996 Ford Explorer?

My truck has been squeaking on occasion when I turn the wheel. I brought it to a shop and was told I need upper and lower ball joints. Checking prices online I found a Ford site and found there was a recall on the suspension – the sway bar links. I’m just wondering if they would be bad because of this or if they have nothing to do with each other.

i own a repair shop, and they did have a recall on those, and they will cause the squeaking your hearing,so will bad ball joints if there really dry on grease, but if they was that bad on it,they would be ready to fall off of of it,what i would do is take it and have it checked out real good, and see what the shop that checks it says about it,it might be that you can still get in on the recall, its been out for a while, and you may actually have to pay for this repair, but id sure try it, but those bushings aren’t that expensive, and the labor isn’t that bad on putting them in either,so its not going to cost you a lot of money to get this done, either way it sounds like its going to have to be done sooner or later on this one, good luck with it i hope this helps.

they have nothing to do with each other. they are both parts of the suspention but haave different functions. Ford typically put plugs in their joints where they should have grease fittings or they have no grease fittings at all. When you get new Joints, remember to grease them at every oil change.
